The Comeback Kids

Today we are going to look into a couple of movie franchises that just keep coming back! Very rarely, it seems, people truly adore the 3rd, 4th, or even 5th installment of a movie series. The only exception might be when the series is based off of books, I suppose. Lately, we just keep seeing movies from over a decade ago suddenly pop up with another new installment. Indiana Jones 4 anyone? It's cause for concern.

Let's get the ball rolling with 'A Good Day to Die Hard'. This movie isn't trying to span too large a time gap, the last one was in 07' with 'Live Free or Die Hard'. If you were a fan of the 'Die Hard' series before 07' then you were probably disappointed when that movie came out. In my opinion it fell short of my expectations. Part of the problem was the 'PG-13' rating, the movie felt like it was wearing a leash. I am not some violence junkie, but when the 4th movie in a series is suddenly 'PG-13' when all the others have been 'R' there are going to be some notable differences. We, as an audience, knew what the feel and attitude of the series was and 'Live Free or Die Hard' failed to capture it. Now we have Bruce Willis giving it another try! Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I am really hoping that they will make up for the previous failings and give us another solid, action packed adventure! Naturally, the first thing you check is the rating. I have been waiting and waiting, watching all the trailers, hoping to see that familiar 'R'. Well, it is! Now all they have to do is not wreck it! In the trailer you hear the familiar 'Ode to Joy' playing and I just can't help but hope that they are coming back to their roots. John McClane, in Russia, with his son? Sounds like a good time to me! Only time will tell.

So, it's not a "real' movie poster.
Who cares right?
Second, we have 'Jurassic Park 4'. I am looking quite a ways down the pike for this one. The release date is June 13, 2014. We know hardly anything about it. There have been many plot theories swirling around the Internet for some time now. My least favorite is the genetically engineered soldier dinosaurs. Please no. All I can really say is that I have a bad feeling about this. 'Jurassic Park 3' was stretching my patience to the limit. I actually still enjoyed that movie, just far less than the other two. No one knows whether or not Sam Neill and/or Jeff Goldblum will return. If they have them return and kill them I will revolt, I can tell you that much. I can see it now, "Oh, they're old men now. Malcolm just can't run fast enough. *om nom*" At the same time 'Jurassic Park' without one or both of them wouldn't feel right somehow. I find myself thinking things like, "Quit messing with my childhood!" It's pretty safe to assume that the movie won't live up to former glory so now we are wishing that it won't totally stink!  We will know more once they get farther into production. Let's cross our fingers for this one folks.

  1. Bruce just makes it look easy, doesn't he. Still.

And soldier robots?? Oh heavens no.

    Love this review! Thanks!

Emergency at the Pony Express

It was a hot dusty day at the Pony Express station. There were no packages coming and the riders were getting antsy. Jesse, the youngest rider at age 16, was re-shoeing his pony, and Kale, Jesse’s older brother, was sitting on the porch watching the Texas dust blow. Jesse stood up, patted the pony and said, “Well Sarah, we are ready to go now.” He then walked to the water barrel and drank a large ladleful, liquid rolling down his shirt. Kale looked at the horizon and saw two dark silhouette’s approaching. “Hey Jesse!” Kale hollered, “I think a job’s a- comin’.” Jesse looked around the corner of the station to see the figures growing by the second. He quickly ate a biscuit, then stood on the porch watching as the men arrived. The men were obviously military, both wearing navy blue uniforms, their horses were stark black with manes and tales cut short. “What can we do for you’s today?” Kale asked. “We need you to deliver a package to Baton Rouge, Louisiana,” one of the men said.

KIds Can be Cruel

I can hardly believe the capability of people to just be heartless. Cliques are such a horrible thing, making so many people sad. Don't you hate it when someone says, "Partner up!" and you are the last person chosen? It is so much worse when you are the last person for months. Kids can be soooo cruel. What about when the kids start playing dirty? When they start spreading rumors? What if they are trying to crush a person? It sure stinks to be the person on the "crush" list! As you can tell I am having social problems.

The Hobbit ~ Beware!

I saw the first installment of the 'Hobbit' trilogy opening day yesterday. I was greatly saddened. It. Is. Bad. So bad that I wish I hadn't seen it. So bad, that I don't think I will waste my time on any of the future installments. Peter Jackson took a wonderful, complete, enjoyable story and adulterated it nearly beyond recognition. Now, before you think I am just a purist who despises change, I'm not! Yes, I read all the 'Lord of the Rings' books as well as 'The Hobbit' growing up, and I understand that things change when you are translating a story from book to movie. This went beyond that. I have many specific problems. Yes, that is a stream of dried bird poop on his face. First, they added Radagast the brown wizard. Why in the heck of all creation would someone think that was a good idea? Let's add a totally unnecessary character and side plot that only confuses the audience and draws away from the real focus! It was terrible from ev
