X-Men ~ Etcetera Etcetera

Hello all! Today I am going to be looking at the forthcoming X-Men movies. If you have been watching this franchise over the last decade you will know that A: There are a lot of them, and B: They have spanned centuries and have even managed two sets of actors to play the same characters at different ages, for some and not all the X-Men. Well, as if five movies wasn't enough there are two more in production right now. They are set for release in 2013 and 2014. Also, they are both sequels (ish) to the two different plot lines they have running. By sequel, they may just be set immediately after the previous installments because they were pretty well wrapped up when we left them.

First out the gate will be 'The Wolverine'. This movie is said to be set after 'X-Men: The Last Stand' or in other terms, modern day. Wolverine, AKA Hugh Jackman, is going to travel to Japan to train with a Samurai. My first reaction to this was, "Really??? That's so cheesy!!" I was very quickly corrected by some of my friends. Apparently this happens in the comic books and it's a classic part of Wolverine's story. Honestly, it still sounds pretty bad. The movie is still far enough away that we don't have a trailer yet, so I don't have much more to go on. Part of me just wants this franchise to die gracefully, but it won't. Maybe it will be good! It's predecessor chronologically was possibly the worst in the series but the origin story movie for Wolverine was pretty cool so maybe it'll be more like that. This is the LESS ridiculous story of the two, if you believe it.

Hopefully it can't be worse than this.
Next up, with the 2014 release year, we have 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. As you may have guessed from the title, it's a time travel movie. This movie is set up as a sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' which is the most recent movie released. According to what I find online the movie is going to be set in the 70's at least before the time travel begins. On IMDB it has both sets of actors for the same characters listed, so I'm assuming the old and young version are both going to be present. They may even meet. Apparently they have to avert some terrible crisis before it happens. I'm not sure if the past is going to jump forward, or vice versa. Theoretically, one time could go and collect another and the mob of them could go to a third time, hopefully not. I feel like going into the world of time travel is always very risky! Very few movies pull it off with any sort of success. 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' for example: It had time travel and was arguably the worst movie in the series. Also, we all know 'Back to the Future' did it perfectly and no one will ever be able to top that. Again, we have no trailer yet so all we have is speculation. I am equally more excited and more nervous about this one! If it turns out well it'll be great, or they'll ruin it and the movie will be a terrible disaster. I don't feel like there can be a middle ground.

In conclusion, I will certainly see both of these movies. I am an X-Men fan, through and through. Even though they have messed with things in previous movies, which has enraged me, I keep coming back. I may be angered again! Well, that's it for today!

UPDATE: The trailer for 'The Wolverine' has now come out.

As expected, it kinda looks terrible. I mean, who wants to see Wolverine be all weak and miserable?

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug ~ An Abomination

Hello, everyone! I finally managed to get myself to the theatre to see 'The Desolation of Smaug'! As most of you probably remember,  I pretty much hated the first 'Hobbit' movie.  Well, this one is even worse! Congratulation Peter Jackson, you outdid yourself. Your selfish, egotistical direction style has managed to absolutely destroy the middle section of the beloved Hobbit story. Let's get started on the details shall we? First! I know this has been talked about by everyone, but the High Frame Rate! It's distracting and clunky. I'm my opinion, it make everyone look like they were moving ever so slightly in fast forward. Also, it generally made the film quality look like a made-for-TV movie. I watched the first Hobbit in 2D so this was my first encounter with this laborious beast. They never should have done it. Second, the Hobbit feet. WHY WHY WHY? Why did they make his feet swollen to a comical, ridiculous level? They are meant to be hairy and tough,

Emergency at the Pony Express

It was a hot dusty day at the Pony Express station. There were no packages coming and the riders were getting antsy. Jesse, the youngest rider at age 16, was re-shoeing his pony, and Kale, Jesse’s older brother, was sitting on the porch watching the Texas dust blow. Jesse stood up, patted the pony and said, “Well Sarah, we are ready to go now.” He then walked to the water barrel and drank a large ladleful, liquid rolling down his shirt. Kale looked at the horizon and saw two dark silhouette’s approaching. “Hey Jesse!” Kale hollered, “I think a job’s a- comin’.” Jesse looked around the corner of the station to see the figures growing by the second. He quickly ate a biscuit, then stood on the porch watching as the men arrived. The men were obviously military, both wearing navy blue uniforms, their horses were stark black with manes and tales cut short. “What can we do for you’s today?” Kale asked. “We need you to deliver a package to Baton Rouge, Louisiana,” one of the men said.

The Hobbit ~ Beware!

I saw the first installment of the 'Hobbit' trilogy opening day yesterday. I was greatly saddened. It. Is. Bad. So bad that I wish I hadn't seen it. So bad, that I don't think I will waste my time on any of the future installments. Peter Jackson took a wonderful, complete, enjoyable story and adulterated it nearly beyond recognition. Now, before you think I am just a purist who despises change, I'm not! Yes, I read all the 'Lord of the Rings' books as well as 'The Hobbit' growing up, and I understand that things change when you are translating a story from book to movie. This went beyond that. I have many specific problems. Yes, that is a stream of dried bird poop on his face. First, they added Radagast the brown wizard. Why in the heck of all creation would someone think that was a good idea? Let's add a totally unnecessary character and side plot that only confuses the audience and draws away from the real focus! It was terrible from ev
