'Ernest and Celestine' and Mom's Night Out'

Today I have two trailers to share! They both look good but one of them is really making me excited! I'm going to save the best for last and start with ' Mom's Night Out'. Here is the trailer. That looks like some good clean fun to me! I don't think it's going to be Earth shatteringly good, I think it will be enjoyable. A nice way to spend two hours after a long day. That's what that trailers says to me! The fact that is has both Sean Astin and Patricia Heaton also gives me a lot of faith in the movie! Hopefully, I'll be right! Now it's time for 'Ernest and Celestine'. This movie is hand drawn. That immediately caught my attention. It's absolutely gorgeous! Take a look! It looks so cute, creative, and heartwarming! I love it! I know it came out a few years ago in France and that it's nominated for an Oscar now. Sometimes I really wish the international release dates weren't so incredibly delayed! We should have acces...

Belle

It's a beautiful fall morning and I have a very charming looking trailer for today. The name of the movie is 'Belle' it's a Period Piece, and is set in England. It's based on a true story. Let's take a look shall we? It looks well done, gorgeous, and thought provoking. All things that I heartily appreciate in a good film. The story is quite unique and I find myself curious about how it will end. The feel of the trailer reminds me of the movie 'Amazing Grace' which tackles a somewhat different angle on the same general topic. If it's anything like that then this will be a good movie! I can't help but chuckle at the presence of Tom Felton. The Draco Malfoy actor from 'Harry Potter' always seems to play the bad guy. It's a shame really. I'd love to see him play a hero. All in all, I was charmed just enough by this trailer for me to decide to share it with everyone. I'm rather looking forward to seeing it!

The Young and Prodigious Spivet

Hello all! I have a trailer today. When I found this trailer, I was so thrilled. I felt like I had just discovered buried treasure. It's made by the French in English. So that's why there are French subtitles on the trailer. Here we go! It's just so charming! The cinematography grabbed my attention and the story grabbed my heart. I feel like the trailer really stands on its own feet. The only real question is Helena Bonham Carter, Hollywood's wild card. I think she'll do great. We all know she is capable of sane, serious roles, and we get to see that I think. All in all, keep your eyes out for this one! I expect great things!

The Sapphires ~ A Real Gem (Get it?)

Hello all! I have a movie review for you today. The movie is 'The Sapphires'. As you may remember, I  recommended this movie previously in a post.  Let's just say I wasn't disappointed! 'The Sapphires'. A movie about four Aboriginal girls in Australia. Three sisters and one cousin. These four girls can sing incredibly well together. They have a few things stacked against them though; They're black in the 1960's and they aren't polished as a music act. They can't do anything about the black bit, but upon meeting an enthusiastic man who agrees to be their manager, their career begins to really grow. This manager switches them from Country/Western music to Soul and teaches them some choreography. Oh, I almost forgot to mention one last thing! They go out to perform for the US troops in Vietnam. That ups the stakes a bit, doesn't it? This movie is simply great! My favorite thing about it is the characters. They are very unique, believab...

Mr. Morgan's Last Love

Hello everyone! I have found a delightful yet probably quite sad trailer for today. It is staring one of my favorite actors, Sir Michael Caine. Here is the trailer. It's set in Paris and it's about love, loss, and new friendship. I love it! The tears will fall, but I'm sure there will be plenty of smiles as well. I just get the feeling that when the movie fades to black, I will be happy. That's the mark of a good film, I think. What do you think? Yay or nay from you? Also, a brief side note. I am currently adventuring around the U.K. at the moment. Because of this my posts will be strictly once a week until I return home. Just a few weeks and then my posting will become more frequent. If anyone is interested, I can do a brief post about my trip once I return. All you have to do is ask! I'll be back in a week with another post! Talk to you then.

Once

I have a bit of a different review today. I have just finished watching 'Once', a modern Irish musical set in Dublin. The movie is about an Irish street musician/vacuum repairman who meets a Czech woman. This Czech woman and Irish man develop a friendship and decide to record a demo album for the Irish man to take to London so he can try and make it big time! It's an incredibly real story with many charmingly human moments. The movie is considered a musical. They sing plenty of full songs throughout the film. These songs relate how they are feeling and aid in the story progression. What sets this one apart is that when they sing it makes sense. They don't break into song in a coffee shop and have a big dance number. They will be sitting in the studio singing the song while working on writing it. Because of this shift in style I honestly forgot about the fact that is was a musical even though they were singing all the time! It just felt like a movie about musicians. ...

A Hijacking

First things first, this is my 100th blog post! Exciting moment! Okay, moving on. Today I want to talk about the movie 'A Hijacking'. When I first saw this trailer I immediately connected it with  'Captain Phillips'  in my mind. Both are about Somali Pirates and both involve a hostage situation on a cargo vessel. When I wrote about  'Captain Phillips'  I was very excited! Now we have 'A Hijacking' and an obvious compare and contrast ensues. I have never understood why, periodically, two movies that are shockingly similar both come out at the same time. Recently we have had 'White House Down' and Olympus Has Fallen', even the titles are practically the same. In the past there has been 'Madagasgar' and 'The Wild', 'Snow White and the Huntsman' and 'Mirror Mirror', 'The Illusionist' and 'The Prestige', and let us not forget the great penguin overload a few years back. It seems like usually whic...

Haute Cuisine

I have a quick trailer post today. Here is 'Haute Cuisine'. I feel like the trailer give you very little insight into the actual  plot  though it gives you plenty of information about how the movie will feel.  Honestly, I'm not sure whether the primary spoken language is French or English. None the less, I have a good feeling about this trailer. I suppose that's a given, I wouldn't be posting it if I didn't think it would be good! Boiled down I think that it will be an interesting, charming, fun, and mouthwatering movie. Also, it looks beautiful. If the rest of the film shares the same cinematography then we are in for a treat! Frankly, I have a sweet spot for cooking movies and this definitely fits the bill! I know I'm excited to watch it!

Day of the Falcon

Hello movie loving people! As you may remember, some time ago I showed you the trailer for the movie 'Day of the Falcon' and had various things to  say  about it. Well, I have now watched the movie! Let's get started shall we! 'Day of the Falcon' is a movie about two warring tribes in the middle east who, after a brief spell of peace, begin to war again over the discovery of oil on some disputed land. I found this movie to be incredibly interesting. Most people don't think about where their oil comes from or what the extraction of said oil may do to the local population. Honestly, it makes you feel a little ashamed to go fill up your car. Antonio Banderas does a great job throughout the movie. Gold star Banderas!  Banderas is the leader of the tribe that wants to westernize while the other tribe is traditional. I don't want to give away the major plot twists so I am going to stop myself now. The movie itself is well done. All the costumes, sets, and lo...

The Angels' Share

Okay everyone, I've found another good one! Trailer first. Did I mention kilts? You see what I mean? You are interested, don't deny it! Unique, quirky, funny, and Scottish! A new father, who is down on his luck, tries to find a way to support his family? Sounds interesting. What are his means for supporting his family? By stealing tiny portions of incredibly expensive whiskey of course. Bingo! They've just found a novel idea. Young Robbie discovers that he has a rare talent for whiskey tasting, so naturally he puts it to 'good' use. From the trailer I would say that this is going to be a feel good movie that makes you happy about life. This movie is so terribly up my alley I can't even express how pleased I am to see that it exists! Heist movie? Good. Rags to riches plot with redemption undertones? Great. Quirky story with what appears to be great writing? Fantastic! Set in Scotland with at least some beautiful scenery? I am SO EXCITED! Keep your eye on ...

'Day of the Falcon' and 'Quartet'

Happy Sunday, everyone! I have two trailers today! Lately, I have been going over, primarily, well known movies and I want to give fair attention to the understated and more thoughtful films as well. I have a good feeling about both these movies. They are very dissimilar in every way except that they will be thought provoking. So, put your thinking cap on! I am going to start with 'Day of the Falcon'. As far as I can tell this movie used to be called 'Black Gold' and has already been released in France in 2011. I guess it takes longer then I thought for movies to hop the pond! But no matter. It's coming out this year in the U.S. The movie is set in the 1930's at the beginning of the oil boom in the Middle-East. My first reservation is Antonio Banderas, because he is not a very consistent actor. He is a very wide-swinging pendulum on the quality scale. I'm hoping he is swinging in the good direction for this movie. Besides that, it looks beautiful, dramat...

Mes Trois Films Français Préférés

Hello all! I have decided to let you know my three favorite French films. I don't really know why, but I watch a LOT of foreign movies. I could list all the countries but it would be a long, boring list. I have studied the French language for more than 4 years so I have a special soft spot for French language films. There are three that stand out in my memory and I want to recommend them to the world! First is "Le Papillion" (The Butterfly) I absolutely adore this movie! It is the story of a slightly grumpy man who, against his wishes, ends up trekking through the French countryside in search of a rare butterfly! Throughout the story you get so very attached to both the characters. Through the ups and downs of their adventure you see them grow attached to one another. Think Disney-Pixar's "Up". It's a similar dynamic. All in all it is a beautiful, heartfelt movie that I would recommend! Second is "Heartbreaker". "Heartbreake...
