'Ernest and Celestine' and Mom's Night Out'

Today I have two trailers to share! They both look good but one of them is really making me excited! I'm going to save the best for last and start with ' Mom's Night Out'. Here is the trailer. That looks like some good clean fun to me! I don't think it's going to be Earth shatteringly good, I think it will be enjoyable. A nice way to spend two hours after a long day. That's what that trailers says to me! The fact that is has both Sean Astin and Patricia Heaton also gives me a lot of faith in the movie! Hopefully, I'll be right! Now it's time for 'Ernest and Celestine'. This movie is hand drawn. That immediately caught my attention. It's absolutely gorgeous! Take a look! It looks so cute, creative, and heartwarming! I love it! I know it came out a few years ago in France and that it's nominated for an Oscar now. Sometimes I really wish the international release dates weren't so incredibly delayed! We should have acces...

The Book Thief ~ Beautiful

Yesterday, the roads were finally clear enough to get to the movie theatre. I decided to watch 'The Book Thief'. Boy was I glad I made that choice! You might recall that I  blogged about 'The Book Theif'  several months ago. At that time I hadn't read the book but the trailer was enough to get my curiosity running and I have read it now! It's good to know your source material wouldn't you say? Let's get started! This movie is absolutely gorgeous. The visuals are simply stunning! Indoors or outdoors, it doesn't matter. All the little details and World War II era gadgets pull you right back in time. What I'm trying to say is that the sets, costumes, and cinematography are absolutely perfect! Not only are they perfect, but they are also exactly how I pictured them from the book. So they are accurate to the story as well! Very, very good! The acting is also masterfully done. Geoffrey Rush is such a class act, yet somehow I am still surprise...

Hours

So check this trailer out. Can we just talk about how heartwarming this is? I mean, obviously the wife dying isn't heartwarming but the paternal connection certainly is! It just looks so very intense, which will hopefully be good. It will be a bit difficult watching because it's Paul Walker. Post mortem movies always have that certain grim feel. We shall see! It's a short but sweet post today! Talk to you all again soon!

Robot and Frank ~ Charming and Simple

Last night I snuggled in with a cup of cocoa and watched 'Robot and Frank'. I first blogged about the trailer over a year ago,  here.  Finally, it came out on Netflix instant so I could give it a watch! 'Robot and Frank' is a movie about an aging man whose son gives him an assistance robot. It's set slightly in the future where aid robots are more commonplace. Frank is having problems with his memory so he needs someone, or something, there to make sure he doesn't get confused or lost. One of the things I like about this film is that even though he had trouble with his memory, he was still very smart and capable in most areas of his life. Frank is very resistant to the robot but begins to see the silver lining when he realized that the robot doesn't have any programming that prohibits him from breaking the law. You see, Frank is a retired high-end cat burglar. Now that Frank has the help of his new robot friend, he is able to come out of retirement and ...

The Reluctant Fundamentalist ~ A New Perspective

Hello all! As you may remember, some time ago I posted the trailer for 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist'.  Finally, it managed to get to the top of my Netflix que. Yesterday I made a pot of tea and snuggled in to watch it! For those of you that don't know, 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' is the story of a young, ambitious, Pakistani man who had recently started his new job at a Wall Street company when the Towers fell in New York. Bad timing to say the least! The movie is a retelling. The star character, Changez, is explaining his life story to a reporter (Liev Schreiber) in a café in Pakistan. Throughout the movie there are many little twists and turns which result in an interesting viewing experience. The story is thought-provoking, chilling, at times heartwarming, and at times terribly sad. There is a nice balance. The primary draw is the 'Walk a mile in someone elses's shoes' effect. This movie certainly delivers! I think this film will give you the ...

Mud ~ Too Many Flaws

Hi all. Last night I watched 'Mud'. I was quite excited for this movie, I even  blogged about the trailer.  Sadly, the movie didn't quite stand up to the trailer. It's a very strange situation. It's not that it wasn't good, it's that there was too much bad. A shame really. I'm going to start with the good things. The acting, especially McConaughey, was impressive to say the least. He was gritty and pensive. Surprisingly, he was only shirtless for maybe 5-10 minutes of the film! No, in all seriousness, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about McConaughey's performance. Good job buddy! Frankly, most all the technical aspects of 'Mud' are great. Cinematography, costumes, and sets etc. It's this fact, the fact that is was so well done in most ways, that makes it such a terrible shame to have its two flaws. Told you so. The two flaws! (Dramatic music) Flaw number one! The completely unnecessary presence of filth in this movie. By...

Haute Cuisine

I have a quick trailer post today. Here is 'Haute Cuisine'. I feel like the trailer give you very little insight into the actual  plot  though it gives you plenty of information about how the movie will feel.  Honestly, I'm not sure whether the primary spoken language is French or English. None the less, I have a good feeling about this trailer. I suppose that's a given, I wouldn't be posting it if I didn't think it would be good! Boiled down I think that it will be an interesting, charming, fun, and mouthwatering movie. Also, it looks beautiful. If the rest of the film shares the same cinematography then we are in for a treat! Frankly, I have a sweet spot for cooking movies and this definitely fits the bill! I know I'm excited to watch it!

Anna Karenina ~ Astounding!

Last night I tore open my Netflix envelope and sat down to watch 'Anna Karenina'. Having read the book, I was expecting to be disappointed, angered, and generally hate every second of the film. I was wrong! This movie was one of the most satisfying 'book to movie' translations I have ever witnessed. Being a person who is nearly never satisfied with Classic Literature in movie form, that's a massive compliment. Let me make some specific points. I have to start with the cinematography. It was filmed almost like a play. The characters were living out their Russian lives while their surroundings were sets that would swirl and change as they walked from place to place. A lot of the time the characters would be backstage  for a scene or in the audience of the theatre while snooping on what is happening on stage. I expected this to be an over artistic distraction but I really enjoyed it! It made it possible for the story to be abridged to movie length without losing valu...

The Scapegoat

Hi all! I have found a delightful little gem. Today, we will be talking about 'The Scapegoat'. This movie turned out to be an unknown happy surprise hiding in the back of Netflix! 'The Scapegoat' is a movie about two men who, by chance, meet each other and realize that they are exactly identical in appearance. One is from a wealthy aristocratic family who runs a foundry while the other is a poor schoolteacher. Johnny and John, respectively. At first I was expecting a 'Prince and the Pauper' storyline but I was happily surprised! After an evening of chatting and deciding that they have no familial ties, the poor man falls asleep. In the morning he wakes to discover that all of his belongings have been stolen and replaced with the things of the rich man and there is a butler at the door prepared to drive him "home". He is now thrust into the life of his rich counterpart. Naturally, at first he tries to explain what has happened but the entire household...

The Company You Keep

Hello, movie loving people. As you may remember, a little while ago I suggested,  'The Company You Keep' . Yesterday, I popped into the local movie theatre and watched it! I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. It was slightly different then I expected, but not in a bad way. I'll go over the details later. 'The Company You Keep' is about a group of four people who, when they were young, were members of The Weather Underground. Essentially, back in the 70's, they took the protest against the Vietnam war too far and it became violent. This particular group robbed a bank and shot a security guard. These people used their resources and smarts to hide away under fake names, successfully, for 30 years. Now, when they are all grown and with children of their own, Susan Sarandon's character decides to turn herself in. What she didn't expect was that a young zealous journalist, Shia LaBeouf, would find the connection between her and Robert Redford. Robert Re...

Into the White

Ya just want to pinch those cheeks! As per usual, a period piece based on true story has caught my eye! Here we have a WWII movie where two planes from opposing sides are shot down in the wild cold of Norway and are forced to live in the same cabin for survivals sake.  Intriguing , right? I know I'm interested! So, you have probably recognized the red haired guy on the poster. Yes, it's Rupert Grint AKA Ron Weasley from the 'Harry Potter' series. He sure has grown up fast! You probably remember him as the fresh faced youth in the first "Harry Potter' installment. As far as I know this is the first truly serious role he has played. There have been a few semi-serious roles, but nothing quite like this. I hope he pulls it off! Putting that aside, I think we might have a good film on our hands. I don't know where the story will go or if they even survive. I'm assuming they will eventually bond... or kill each other. It should be interesting howeve...

'B' and 'B'

'Brave' and 'Bernie'! Two movies that are similar in no way. Except, of course, they both start with 'B' and they have both been nominated for awards this year. As I'm sure you can guess, I am very excited about awards season. I am developing a mild case of Oscar frenzy. I want my favorites to win! In preparation, naturally, I have been watching a lot of the movies I have seen pop up at the awards shows that have already happened. I would have gotten around to them eventually, but the timing is too good! First is 'Brave'! I have wanted to see this movie since the moment I heard is was going to exist. I love Disney-Pixar and their movies together. I'm a child at heart and I'm not sorry! Netflix took its sweet time getting 'Brave' sent to my mailbox but I finally saw it.  Boy was it more then I ever expected! I hadn't really looked into it that much. I saw the words Pixar and I knew I would watch it so there wasn't any reason ...
